Knitting Apprentice
You appear to be a Knitting Apprentice.
You've got the basics down pat and you might just
be falling in love with this hobby. Big
needles, funky yarns and simple shapes are the
name of the game, but it doesn't mean you don't
experiment a bit, here and there. As an
apprentice, you probably fall back on other
people to get you through those rough spots,
and if you don't know anyone who knits, you
probably have a few books or online sources to

Is this thing on?

I finished my first Christmas present tonight!

Now granted, it was supposed to be finished for last Christmas but what are ya gonna do. I haven't decided who it's going to yet. Right now I'm just going to try and get a bunch of projects going so I have some hope of giving a bunch of handmade presents this year.

onto the pictures!Collapse )

The scarf was knit in garter stitch with size 11 (8.0 mm) needles using Bernat Soft Boucle Dark Rose.

Wow. It's been way too long since I've updated. Granted, I've been busy with The Nut but still, a gal needs to knit!

So I'll start knitting again. Right now.

turbo charged
You are "turbo" charged.
Fast moving and classy, you get things done with
power and grace. Your expensive tastes can be
deceiving, since what you really value is
quality and efficiency. As you're careening
around those corners in life, finishing a dozen
knitted objects each month, stop and smell the
roses. Don't miss the beauty of process!

My new bag arrived today and I absolutely love it!

Is it wrong that having a cool bag to keep everything in makes me want to knit more?

Woo, I feel like I'm starting to make progress on one Christmas present. Chris was giving me crap the other night, telling me I wouldn't get the ones I have planned done in time. Ha! Ha I say! Ha!

procrastination invading... [01 Dec 2003|12:00pm]
[ mood | motivated ]

So last Wednesday I established a goal (while online with wait, sandboxdiva and messyjessy) to finish a knitting project by the end of the long weekend.

Well I failed. D'oh. But I did work on said project (a funky scarf) on and off, I only have a few more 80-stitch rows to go and it should be complete. This is the first scarf I've made that is knitted vertically instead of horizontally. This is the yarn I'm using on the current scarf (Crystal Palace in Berry Parfait):

I saw one of my aunts last Friday. She's a huge knitter, about a month ago she showed me this gorgeous sweater coat she made with cables and everything. I told her I was sure she could sell it somewhere for at least $75, it was just breathtaking. I had some of my knitting stuff with me when I saw her and she started looking through my knitting books and stuff. She's come to the conclusion that she's going to force me to make something other than scarves. Which is good, seriously, if left to my own devices I would just make scarves forever, they're easy, you don't need to pay a ton of attention to them while knitting, they're just all around easy.

So she was flipping through my knitting books and kept commenting on how easy some of the projects were, she even tried telling me that cabeling was easy. Uh-huh. But her nagging suggestions did have some effect on me, on Saturday I went to Needlework Unlimited and picked up some circular needles to attempt my first hat. cbongo is also on my case to make him some socks so we'll see how adventurous I'm feeling in the next couple of weeks here.

But until then, I have a bunch of Christmas scarves to get started on!

Ok, this isn't the greatest picture and I don't think it does the scarf or the yarn justice but I wanted to get something posted. This scarf has already appeared in my main journal, posthaste.

I'll put this and future pictures behind cut tags to save your friends page :) My plan is to also list the supplies I use to make my stuff, although since I'm posting this at work I don't have access to the exact name of the yarn right now, I'll update that later

first scarfCollapse )

Supplies Used
Size 15 bamboo needles (purchased at The Yarnery)
1 1/4 skeins Funny Pelsgarn, color: Parti (purchased at The Yarnery)

Cast on 15 stitches
Work in garter stitch

Notes from Jess
The instructions I found with this yarn at The Yarnery said to use 2 skeins of the yarn. I found that the scarf was to the length I wanted after about 1 1/4 skeins so I went ahead and binded off (bound off?)
